The lateral line system makes a fish sensitive to vibrations in the water. It consists of a series of tubelike canals in a fish's skin. Vibrations enter the canals through <I>pores</I> (openings in the skin) and travel to sensory organs in the canals. Nerves connect these organs to the brain.
